Poetry

I received an Honorable Mention in the Rhyming Poetry category for the 88th Annual Writer’s Digest Writing Competition for my poem: “A New Song.”

A New Song

When the day is long
and my mind is tight,
and my heart beats heavy through an endless night--
I take my kayak at the break of dawn
and I sing a new song.

Then I breathe in rhythm
with my silent oar,
and I leave my worry on the distant shore.
Renewed blood flows through my aching veins
and I sing a new song.

The gull cries herald
my stress release;
the eye-squinting, mind-bending headaches cease.
Far from the boardroom, it's a simple life
and I sing a new song.
